The FLT is Hiring a Marketing Manager


Position Title: Marketing Manager


Organization: Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust (FLT)


Location: 189 Beddis Road. Remote working position with periodic in person meetings as needed. Option to work in the office available. 


Wage: $35/ hr 




Duration: 160 hr contract. Weekly hours to be negotiated. Hours must be completed by June 30, 2024. 


Working Circle: Community Engagement 

Our organization is transitioning to Sociocracy to govern and manage our work and projects. Each new member of our team will be placed in a working circle of peers. Circles are organized to provide maximum communication, efficiency, and autonomy amongst all members of the organization. If you’d like to learn more about this governance model you can visit Sociocracy For All. An introductory session to the main concepts and practices of sociocracy will be provided to each of our staff and volunteers as part of orientation


Overview:

Are you a tech-savvy storyteller with a passion for making a positive impact in your community? The Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust (FLT) is seeking an enthusiastic individual to lead our marketing team. As the Marketing Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in sharing our love of land, food and connection with our island community.The main project for this contract will be helping us promote our new volunteer positions for our Local Foodshare team, educational workshop series, and community gardens. 

The SSI Farmland Trust has been instrumental in various local projects over the past decade, including the development of the local abattoir, The Root food hub, and the Burgoyne Valley Community Farm. Our goal is to empower locals with access, knowledge, and space to sustainably feed themselves, their families, and their neighbors. Now, we're seeking to expand our reach and engage our community through innovative storytelling and marketing strategies.


Responsibilities:


  • Develop Marketing Strategies for Volunteer Recruitment:

  • Collaborate with the leadership team to understand organizational goals and objectives.

  • Research and develop a mailing campaign to send out to Salt Spring neighborhoods to promote volunteer positions + 2024 programs

  • Design and print postcard + stickers to be included in the mailing campaign

  • Social Media Management:

  • Manage and enhance our presence on social media platforms by posting 3X weekly. Themes and posting schedule are provided.

  • Develop and implement a strategy for increasing the followers and engagement on our Instagram and Facebook pages

  • Content Creation:

  • Generate compelling and relevant content for various marketing channels, including social media, website, and newsletters.

  • Coordinate with team members to gather stories, testimonials, and other content to showcase our impact.

  • Brand Management:

  • Ensure consistent branding across all communication channels.

  • Refine or add to current brand guidelines as needed

  • Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with external partners from the Agricultural Alliance to enhance marketing opportunities and cross promotion.

  • Create work plan for marketing volunteer as it relates to the overall objectives and themes of the marketing campaign

  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to marketing volunteers and ensure oversight when needed 

  • Ensure that content generated from marketing team is added to relevant social media platforms following brand guidelines

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in marketing, preferably in a non-profit or volunteer-driven organization.

  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and marketing trends.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively 

  • Creativity and innovation in developing marketing strategies.

  • Proficient in using marketing tools and platforms.
