Make connections to the
Indigenous Community
Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust is working to foster meaningful connections with the Indigenous community through collaborative and inclusive initiatives, in the spirit of reconciliation and reciprocity. We recognize the importance of Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and perspectives in revitalizing local food systems.
We acknowledge that the lands we steward are part of the unceded territories of the Hul'qumi'num and SENĆOŦEN speaking Coast Salish people. Our approach involves co-hosting events like community feasts on Indigenous Peoples Weekend, to facilitating Indigenous-led workshops through our Learning Centre. We are also proud to have supported a Penelakut Food Drive by accepting tax-deductible donations during a time of crisis for the Nation.
We also strive to integrate Indigenous practices into our land management and community activities, adopting sustainable practices informed by Indigenous wisdom. To further these efforts, we encourage you to get involved: attend our community events, participate in dialogue sessions, and support initiatives that respect and amplify Indigenous voices. We encourage you to join Stqeeye’ Learning Society to get updates on their work, events, and ways you can get involved.
