Friday, June 20 · 5–7 PM · Meadow Behind the United Church
The Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust is excited to kick off another season of connection and abundance with our Solstice Food Exchange — the first exchange of the year — held in partnership with Indigenous Peoples Weekend. This special gathering takes place on Friday, June 20, from 5 to 7 PM, in the meadow behind the United Church.
This isn’t just an exchange of food — it’s an exchange of values: reciprocity, generosity, and community resilience. Taking place alongside a weekend of cultural celebration and ceremony, the Solstice Food Exchange is our way of standing in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples Weekend, honouring shared spaces and efforts that celebrate food sovereignty, land, and community.
What to Expect
🫛 Bring what you can, take what you need — Whether it’s homegrown produce, seeds, preserved goods, or something fresh from your kitchen, the Food Exchange invites folks to give, receive, and trade freely. No money changes hands, just gifts and gratitude.
🥘 Potluck in the Meadow — A shared meal is a timeless way to build community. Bring a dish to contribute and a container to take leftovers home — or just come hungry and enjoy the spread.
🎶 Live Music — The evening will feature soulful tunes from The Boneyard Babes, joined by Nancy Potvin (Anishinaabe), creating the perfect soundtrack for a long, light-filled evening together.
As we mark the turning of the seasons with the summer solstice, we’re also marking the cycles of food, generosity, and care that sustain our communities. The Solstice Food Exchange is one small way we can deepen our relationships — with each other, with the land, and with the food that nourishes us all.
We invite you to be part of it.
