Position: Community Engagement Liaison
Location: Root Food hub and Burgoyne Valley Community Farm
Hours: 8-week contract, 35 hrs/ week
Wage: $20- $25hr based on qualifications
Start Date: July 8th
Overview: The SSI Farmland Trust has been instrumental in various local projects over the past decade, including the development of The Root food hub and the Burgoyne Valley Community Farm. Our goal is to empower locals with access, knowledge, and space to sustainably feed themselves, their families, and their neighbours. With support of Canada Summer Jobs, we are seeking a youth between 15-30 years old to help support us during our busy summer season.
The SSI FLT is hiring a Community Engagement Liaison for this summer’s community commitments, workshops, and gatherings. This position requires independent thinking, but you will be working closely with the FLT team, including weekly check- ins and on- going work plan development.
Staff Support: The Community Engagement Liaison will work between each of the FLT teams: Marketing, Food Share, the Root, Learning Series, and the Burgoyne Valley Community farm, to assist in the marketing, planning, and preparation for all of our upcoming programming.

These four project areas represent the possibility of tasks based on the interest level of the applicant:
The Root Food Hub:
Making signage for the Root building
Updating website about the Root
Weekly kitchen cleanliness inspections
Root permaculture garden
Engage Root tenant community during Sunday Food Exchange and pop- ups
Burgoyne Valley Community Farm:
Helping to spread volunteer project awareness
Assisting the Garden Committee with Summer work parties
Education
Setting up, taking down, and managing the FLT Tuesday Farmers market booth
Attending workshops and assisting workshop facilitator
Salt Spring Food Share
Assisting with fruit harvesting
Aggregating and distributing excess produce at the Root
Managing the weekly Food Exchange
Qualifications:
A passion for local food
Demonstrated ability to work both in a team setting and independently
Basic graphic design and website development an asset
Interested in learning more about not- for- profits
Agricultural experience an asset
Drivers license an asset
Between 15- 30 years of age
Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
