Salt Springers!
Gather up all that ivy, broom, gorse, holly, blackberry and daphne and bring it to Community Gospel Chapel on May 24 for our first invasive plant chipping day of 2025!
Everyone is welcome, but we encourage North-enders in particular to take advantage of this event at 147 Vesuvius Bay Rd.
There will be a second chipping day at Fulford Hall on May 31, and a third day at the SSE bus loop on June 8 - details to come
Before dropping off plants, be sure to remove all roots, dirt, and rocks as these materials ruin the chipper blades and slow down the queue. And if you're wondering how best to remove each kind of plant, check out some guidelines from the Coastal Invasive Species Committee: https://www.coastalisc.com
Please note that we cannot accept yellow flag iris (too wet for chipping), Giant Hogweed (too toxic to handle) or Japanese Knotweed (needs to be buried to 10 feet to get rid of).
Price will be per load:
Car Trunk: $5-$10
SUV: $5-$15
Trailer: $15-$40
Pickup: $15-$40
Box Truck: $50-$150
We are grateful to all our partners and sponsors for collaborating to make this happen:
CRD Grant-in-Aid program, Investment Agriculture Foundation of BC, Transition Salt Spring, The Farmland Trust, Community Gospel Chapel, and GoodAsWood Tree Services!
