This course offers a comprehensive introduction to operating a micro dairy, with an emphasis on producing safe, healthy, and whole raw milk. Participants will explore a wide range of topics, including:
The history and cultural significance of milking
An introduction to cattle, dairy cows, and milk production
The benefits of raw milk, particularly in comparison to pasteurized milk
Animal welfare and veterinary care Holistic and ethical dairy farming practices
Milking techniques and equipment
Designed for both aspiring and current small-scale producers, this course blends practical knowledge with a thoughtful, systems-based approach to dairy stewardship.
Date: June 20-21, 10:30 am - 3:30 pm Includes book reading from Radical Farm by Abey Scaglione (Friday June 19 at 5 pm) at Ruckle Farm, and farm tour (Sat June 20 - time TBD)
