Updated: Sep 29
Two separate on- farm workshops designed for growers who want to deepen their understanding of cover cropping systems that build soil health, reduce erosion, and support resilient yields. With live demonstrations and hands-on seed application alongside the facilitator, participants will gain practical experience in cover crop planning and implementation — from species selection to seeding strategies, soil prep, and crop transitions. Each session includes time for personalized feedback based on your own farm context.
You will learn:
How to choose and combine cover crop species for specific farm goals
Soil preparation and seeding techniques for different conditions
Strategies to protect soil post-seeding and prevent erosion
How to transition from cover cropped areas into crop production
How to adapt cover cropping for climate resilience and carbon sequestration
Please note: These two workshops are independent of each other and participation in both is not required. We encourage women, youth, Indigenous, and other under- represented communities to apply. If cost is a barrier, we encourage you to reach out and learn what scholarship options are available.
This course has passed. You can read about it here in our September newsletter. We also recommend you sign up for our monthly newsletter (it's free!) to learn about more courses and workshops from the Farmland Trust.

Cover cropping improves soil health, increases organic matter, and enhances water retention-crucial for small islands where soil erosion and water scarcity can be significant challenges. This hands-on intensive gives growers the tools, techniques, and confidence to make cover cropping work for their land.
About the facilitator:

Daria Zovi brings over three decades of agricultural expertise to this workshop. She holds a BSc in Agriculture from UBC, with earlier studies in environmental science and agriculture in Italy and the Netherlands.
