Salt Spring Farmland Trust Seeks Operations Manager



Interested in supporting local growers, food producers, and entrepreneurs? Want to make a difference in the sustainability and economies of our food community? Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust is looking for an enthusiastic, organized, self-starter interested in joining The Root, the island’s first food hub. This is an annual position at 25 hours/week. Working alongside a great board, people, and partners make the mission and experience enriching!


This is a one-year contract position with opportunity to renew offering $30/hour x 25 hours/week. (Note: hours may vary slightly depending on week or season.)

The ideal candidate is committed to the production and consumption of sustainable local food and possesses both a strong attention to detail and an innate focus on customer service. Reporting to the Co-Chairs of Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust, the Operations Manager is the main point of contact for clients served by the Root, as well as the public who participates in its programs. The Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the facilities at the Root are welcoming, operational, clean, and safe.


Selected Key Responsibilities include:


* Planning (developing annual operating plans, project plans for key initiatives, facility and equipment maintenance plan.)


* Client Services (primary contact for key partners and for core clients of The Root including commercial kitchen clients, storage clients, barn users, seed storage clients; develop and orient new clients and staff on kitchen equipment.)


* Fundraising + Membership (assist in the development and implementation of fundraising strategy for the Root; maintain accurate and current contact database; manage membership program; draft fundraising proposals and final reports.)


* Operations (coordination of third-party vendors i.e. janitorial services, supplies, pest control; maintaining health and safety standards; coordination and promotion of public workshops, liaising with presenters, ticket sales; assist with social media and content.)


Select Qualifications include:

* Minimum two years related management or operational experience

* Minimum two years in food processing, restaurant, or commercial kitchen preferred

* Able to use CRM software systems such as Keela (or able to learn)

* Self-motivated, can work with minimal supervision, excellent communication skills

* Must be interested in the non-profit sector and love local food!
