Thank You, Salt Spring, for a Spooktacular Halloween Fun-Raiser!

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support the Halloween Fun-Raiser at the Root Food Hub. Despite the rain, we had a wonderful turnout of families, kids, and community members who made the day full of laughter, games, and Halloween spirit.

This day of festivities also celebrated the wonderful volunteers that made the Farmland Trust Food Share program a roaring success this season, culminating in a scrumptious food- exchange potluck featuring the best of this season's bounty.

Highlights from the day included kids in fantastic costumes, apple-on-a-string challenges, a hilariously gross rotten apple toss, and cozy chats around the fire pit.

Together we raised $390 which will be donated to the Salt Spring Food Bank to support local food security.

Thanks to all our local sponsors:

Foxglove Farm & Garden Store – kids’ gardening basket

Country Grocer – 20 pumpkins

Salt Spring Chocolate – $25 gift card

Natureworks Grocery – two bags of candy

Lisa Appletree – four hand-painted Halloween bookmarks

Nance Bakes – delicious baked goods and donation of 25% of sales

Special thanks to our incredible volunteers who brought the magic to life:

Misty Whitaker – event planner extraordinaire

Nance Bakes- Baker who donated 25% of her profits to the Food Bank

Eva – our amazing Tarot Reader who donated her timeAmanda Bapty – face painting funJillian Sabean – our friendly greeterTeagan, Selwyn, Patrick, and Ella – event volunteers who kept everything running smoothlyTransition Salt Spring – for your enthusiastic collaboration, inspiring words on climate action and lighter living, and for bringing such great energy (and delicious food!) to the day. Special shout-out to new board chair Tisha Boulter, who shared her beautiful blue pottery mugs and warm community spirit.

And thank you to the Driftwood for putting us on the front page of the newspaper!

Even though the weather put a damper on our apple pressing demo, we’re so grateful for the community support, smiles, and energy that filled the Root. Thank you Salt Spring community for helping us celebrate the season, our wonderful volunteers, and another bountiful Food Exchange.

We'd love to see you at our next Food Share Gathering which is on the solstice: December 21st, 4pm-6pm

Until next time,

Shannon and the Farmland Trust Team
