Apple Fest Contra Dance

Aug 20
1 min read

Live music, joyful dancing and a hall full of neighbours—come celebrate apple season with the Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust! We’re filling Beaver Point Hall with fiddles, flying feet and the good cheer of harvest season. Contra dance is a lively form of community folk dancing. You’ll dance with a partner, move through repeating patterns and meet plenty of other dancers along the way. You don’t need to bring a partner and you don’t need to know the steps—the caller teaches everything. Beginners are warmly welcomed.

Date: September 26 | 5pm – 9pm

Location: Beaver Point Hall | 1361 Beaver Point Road, Salt Spring

Schedule:

5–6:30 PM – Games, Fun, Apple Juicing, and Socialising

6:30–8:30 PM Contra dancing

Meet the band

Tzela /ˈtsɛ.lə/ is an instrumental folk group born from the ever flowing and energetic folk scene on Vancouver Island. Tzela, whose name is borrowed from a lonely mountain at the heart of the Island, is inspired by the disparate musical communities who’ve made their home here. Having toured around the Salish Sea, Tzela has a deep appreciation for the groove and rhythm that gets people moving. Whether it be Celtic roots, Cape Breton rhythms or Quebecois foot percussion, Tzela weaves music that will get you out of your seat, and stomping, singing and dancing.
