Farmland Feast Returns August 11: An Orchard Circus in Support of Local Food

Jun 3
2 min read

You're invited! Put on your finest orchard-aristocracy attire, gather around a long table with friends and neighbours, and join us for one of the most joyful evenings of the year.

On Tuesday, August 11, the Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust invites you to Farmland Feast, our annual farm-to-table fundraiser at Baker Hall.

This year's theme is A Whimsical Orchard Circus.

Think twinkling lights, local food, surprising delights, colourful characters, community magic, and a gathering of people who care deeply about the future of food and farming on Salt Spring Island.

At the heart of the evening is a spectacular long-table dinner prepared by Sweetgrass Food Co. with ingredients sourced from local farms and food producers. For dessert? Adina of Love's Gallettes will delight with a showstopping cake. Every bite celebrates the growers, makers, harvesters, and entrepreneurs who help feed our island community.

The Farmland Feast is about coming together to support the infrastructure that makes local food possible. It's also about celebrating our local farmers, who are the true rock stars of this island.

Many people know the Farmland Trust through one of our programs. You might have a community garden plot at Burgoyne Valley Farm. Maybe you attended a Root to Bloom workshop, volunteered with Food Share, visited the Root Community Food Hub, or enjoyed produce grown by local farmers.

What many people don't realize is that all of these programs are connected.

Together, they create a network of land for growing, processing facilities, education, partnerships, and community relationships that help local food thrive.

This year, funds raised through Farmland Feast will help support:

  • Burgoyne Valley Community Farm

  • The Root Community Food Hub

  • Root to Bloom educational programming

  • Food Share gleaning and community juicing

  • Infrastructure and equipment that strengthen local food resilience

Your amazing, unwavering support is so integral to helping these programs continue to grow.

The evening will also feature a silent auction, opportunities to contribute to special projects, live entertainment, and a few surprises we aren't quite ready to reveal...

If you've attended one of our farm to table dinners before, you know that it is equal parts fundraiser, celebration, and community gathering.

If this is your first time joining us, prepare yourself for an evening of delicious food, meaningful connection, and a dollop of whimsy.
